Band introduction: Doppelbock – Punk meets folk with a lot of buck!
The German band Doppelbock has made a name for itself in the Celtic punk and Irish folk punk scene in recent years. Anyone who has ever seen the guys live knows that they party from the first second – with mandolin, accordion and a good dose of punk attitude.
Folk in the blood right from the start
“We feel very much at home in this scene,” says the band in an interview. The mixture of punk energy and traditional folk instruments is not a marketing gimmick for Doppelbock, but a conviction. The accordion was there right from the start, the mandolin was added later and now characterizes the band’s unmistakable sound.
New album: “Too young for nostalgia”
The current album “Zu jung für Nostalgie” was released on July 18, 2024. For Doppelbock, it is more than just another record: “This is 100% Doppelbock,” the boys emphasize. The album was produced at the renowned Principal Studios under the direction of Jörg Umbreit. “He has brought us forward in many areas and broadened our horizons.”
A major tour is not planned, but fans can look forward to selected shows and the in-house event “Bockweih”.
Musical influences
Doppelbock combines various musical roots. Punk forms the foundation, but the influence of bands such as Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly and the entire German punk landscape is unmistakable. It is precisely this mix that makes their songs so unique – sometimes snotty, sometimes danceable, always authentic.
What can you expect live?
The band promises an energetic show at Pott Of Gold Open Air 2025: “We’ll do our best to get the crowd fired up. The unexpected is best experienced in the front rows!”
And what happens next?
True to the motto “standing still is going backwards”, Doppelbock already has new projects in mind. They are not revealing anything concrete yet – but one thing is certain: it’s going to be loud, it’s going to be wild, it’s going to be
Doppelbock.
